Workshops on compliance with sustainability standards

Coffee & Horticulture Sectors

A series of awareness raising workshops was conducted for coffee and horticulture enterprises on compliance with sustainability standards including Rainforest Alliance, Organic, Global GAP and implementing internal environmental and social management systems.

More than 250 participants from the coffee and horticulture sectors in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda attended the workshops.

Participants learnt about internal control and risk management systems as well as how to develop policies, procedures and records on various social and environmental topics.

Following the workshops, participants were also brought in the field to visit certified farms and cooperatives and learn about key steps in implementing internal management systems as well as going through certification process against standards.

They appreciated the content, the materials as well as field visits to see in practice the implementation of various social and environmental policies and procedures.

Following the workshops, enterprises started receiving an individual 6-month coaching aimed at developing internal management systems and preparing for certification process against selected standards.

These workshops were organized with support from EU-EAC MARKUP II programme funded by the European Union.
